Colored Wedding Dresses – 11 Wedding Dress Trends for 2011 (1 of 11)

Brides have not always worn white, and they don’t have to today either.  The white wedding dress was brought into Vogue by Queen Victoria in 1840 when she married Albert of Saxe.  Before this time, wedding dresses were almost never white.  So if white is not your cup of tea, you’ll be happy to hear that colored wedding dresses are the hottest wedding trend this year.  From pale almost white shades of pink, blue & grey, to bold dark colors like red and black, colored dresses are coming back in strength.

If you are planning to use color for your dress, we have some great ideas.

If you want a colored dress, but also prefer a simple look, then head to toe in a single color is probably the best way to go.  If you will be adding embroidery or beading, think about using a slightly darker or lighter shade, to make it stand out.

If you like a lot of different colors, then think bold!  Using multiple colors for your dress will add a lot of interest and intrigue.  You could go for multiple colored fabrics, layered up in ruffles, or sections on your dress.  Or a solid color with colorful embroidery from head to toe.

Liking the idea of color, but still feeling attached to a white dress?  Then consider using colored accents.  Maybe it’s a big bold colored bow, or just a section of color.  Or, maybe a dash of colored embroidery will add just the right amount of spice.

Another idea for those of you that still want the white dress is a convertible wedding dress.  Convertible dresses are another hot trend for 2011, so why not have two trends in one!  Your beautiful white gown can be folded, bustled and transformed to reveal a second layer underneath that is full of color!
